GSA’s Citizen Technology Program

The General Services Administration (GSA) www.gsa.gov provides centralized procurement for the federal government. GSA now has started the “Emerging Citizen Technology” program to find practical use cases in government for modern technology.

The Emerging Citizen Technology program works with agencies startups, small businesses, civic organizations and inter-agency communities implementing government-wide public service modernization initiatives.

The program’s services include:

  • Enabling the Artificial Intelligence for Citizen Services program to work with public service managers and U.S businesses to evaluate and build smart automation solutions
  • Examining blockchain cases that use encryption and coding to improve transparency, efficiency, and trust in information sharing
  • Providing for the Virtual and Augmented Reality Program to serve as a collaborative hub for VR and AR business cases
  • Starting the Social Technology (SocialGov) program to evaluate and implement emerging social technologies and strategies for public services developing shared resources and tools to do the job

GSA works with experts to collect and analyze potential use cases, engages in interagency collaborations, and then plans pilots, hosts hackathons, and develops the resources and plans for the potential adoption of the technology.
