DHA Awards HIT SIN Contract

The first major award to include the new Health IT “Special Item Number (SIN 132-56)” on the IT Schedule 70 was made by the Defense Health Agency (DHA www.health.mil.dha. Using Health IT (SIN) will enable both agency customers and industry partners to benefit. The result of using health IT (SIN) makes it possible to separate health IT from other IT Schedule 70 services. This has resulted in a simplified procurement process now being used for health IT services.

Health IT (SIN) was developed since health IT is experiencing an annual growth rate of 7.4 percent which makes the health IT market one of the faster growing technology sectors in government and the private sector. As the health IT market continues to grow, agencies are looking to Schedule 70 for help and by using Health IT (SIN), agencies will be able to incorporate agency requirements and industry capabilities much quicker and more efficiently.

This first major award made by DHA was for a $15.6 million task order that went to the Army Solution Delivery Division for an enterprise Blood Management System (EBMS).This award will help to effectively manage and track blood donor registration, screening, blood products, and associated record keeping for military and civilian blood donors.

The IT Schedule 70 created (SIN) 132-56) to use for health IT services which may include connected health, EHRs, HIEs, health analytics, personal health information management, innovative health IT solutions, health informatics, emerging health IT research, plus other health IT services.
