The Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC) www.mtec-sc.org, a non-profit corporation formed in early 2016 by Applied Technologies International www.appliedintl.com located in South Carolina includes members from industry, academia, plus other organizations.
MTEC has received four regenerative medicine prototype awards for approximately $29 million including $11 million in private funds to provide for regenerative medicine prototyping focused on bio-manufacturing.
Vanderbilt University www.vanderbilt.edu, RegenMed Development Organization www.regenmedix.com in North Carolina, and BioBridge Global http://biobridge.org in San Antonio received the awards and will be collaborating to develop prototypes hopefully leading to technology to advance health for the military.
Several research areas focusing on technology include:
- Clinical and Rehabilitative Medicine—research to develop devices to use for acute and chronic pain management, regenerative medicine and composite tissue engineering, and for neuro-musculoskeletal injuries and sensory systems
- Medical Training and Health Information Science—research to improve military medical training through medical simulation, educational gaming, and the use and sharing of health related data
- Advanced Medical Technologies—may include research on ehealth, developing the digital warrior, hospital of the future, advanced orthopedic devices and treatments, advanced medical imaging technologies, robotic technologies, nanotechnology and biomaterials for diagnosis and therapy, plus developing technologies for treating neurological injuries and regenerative medicine
