All active HHS SBIR/STTR Phase 1 awardees and Phase 1 Fast Track awardees are eligible to apply to the “Niche Assessment Program (NAP). This program was created for active HHS agencies within NIH www.nih.gov, CDC www.cdc.gov, and FDA www.fda.gov SBIR/STTR Phase 1 Awardees.
The NAP is in place to help awardees find appropriate markets for their technology. The program is appropriate for companies developing devices, drugs, biologics, and therapeutics as well as those developing software and educational and multi-media behavioral science products.
NAP provides market insight and data to help small businesses strategically position their technology in the marketplace. The results of the program can help small businesses develop their commercialization plan for their Phase II application and be exposed to potential partners.
Technology Niche Analyses® are provided for 150 HHS SBIR/STTR Phase 1 awardees on a first come, first served basis by Foresight Science & Technology of Providence Rhode Island www.foresight.com. Foresight researches and gathers pertinent information to identify feasible applications for specific technologies.
Foresight in the next step analyzes the selected use of the technology to determine end-user needs, current and emerging competing technologies, market dynamics, socio-economic trends, market drivers, and then addresses the market size and participant’s possible share.
In the third step, Foresight will recommend a market entry strategy. This strategy would help the company market the technology to end-users, help to obtain outside partners, and also provide project revenues for the technology
