Australian Government Signs MOU

The Government of South Australia, the Adelaide Gig City Initiative http://gigcity.com/au, and U.S Ignite Inc. www.us-ignite.org announced that Adelaide is now the first international city to join the growing US Ignite Smart Gigabit Communities program.

The initiative cuts the digital ribbon on an international gigabit age, breaking the problems of dealing with distance so that innovative Australian businesses, research institutions, and governments will be able to collaborate and share information worldwide 24/7.

Representatives from US Ignite, Inc., a public-private partnership funded in part by the National Science Foundation (NSF www.nsf.gov  and the South Australian Government, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at a press briefing held at the National Press Club with the Australian Ambassador to the U.S. the Honorable Joseph Hockey in attendance.

The Honorable Kyam Maher, South Australia’s Minister for Science and Information Economy reports, “Ultra high bandwidth can support leading edge data intensive applications in real time. This is particularly important for applications that depend on video, collaborations for research, image processing and simulation, big data analytics, and cloud computing.”
