VA Supports Digital Health Platform

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) www.osehra.org sent out information on the Veterans Administration’s (VA) www.va.gov recently released Request for Information (RFI) seeking the “Next Generation Digital Health Platform” to be integrated, future-proof, and optimize the cost of operations.

The VA desires a platform that will seamlessly engage veterans, manage clinical care, healthcare operations, plus perform health and operational analytics.

The VA realizes that by establishing the EHR for the Clinical Care Management process without working with other systems will have only a limited impact on the problems that the VA is trying to solve.

The proposed architecture for the Next Generation Digital Health Platform goes beyond the EHR and includes:

  • One EHR
  • One Operation Management Platform
  • One Customer Relationship Management System
  • One Analytics System
  • One Open Application Programming Interface Framework to provide seamless interoperability with internal and external systems

The platform will support the MyVA www.va.gov/myVA framework for modernizing the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) www.va.gov/health culture, processes, and capabilities. Also, efforts by the VA’s Office of Information and Technology www.oit.va.gov and the VHA Administration is not only concerned with internal operations but also wants to extend services and capabilities into communities in the U.S.

The VA is particularly interested in industry partners with prime contractor experience in supporting development and implementation of concepts for large integrated systems of operations and innovations.

This is an RFI to only conduct market research for information and planning purposes only. It does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a promise to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) in the future nor does this RFI commit the Government to contract for any supply or service.
