The American Heart Association (AHA) http://institute.heart.org in collaboration with Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), a leading cloud computing infrastructure, is going to use cloud technology to further cardiovascular medicine. To accomplish this goal, AHA has allocated $30 million over five years to launch the Institute for Precision Cardiovascular Medicine http://institute.heart.org.
AHA is funding a new “Data Grant Portfolio” to award 14 grants over the 12 months and hopes to enable the scientific, mathematics, and technology community to discover solutions that will overcome the current obstacles in accessing and using cardiovascular data.
The Grants include:
- Innovative Development Grants—to develop new tools to make it possible to identify novel approaches and/or tools to analyze data. Applications due January 31, 2017
- Data Mining Grants—to uncover patterns and knowledge within existing data sets to inform standards and protocols for organizing and categorizing current and future cardiovascular disease-based data. Applications due January 31, 2017
- Methods Validation Grants—to focus on validating pre-existing methods including algorithms and analytic tools to maximize the use of data in predicting outcomes. Applications due June 1, 2017
- Fellowship awards—intended to cross-train scientists interested in learning computational biology or more information about specific cohorts. The data fellowships are aimed to establish a future generation of researchers with enhanced skills and capabilities. Applications are due June 1, 2017
