When completed, the Brightpoint Health Center will be among the first in the South Bronx community to offer integrated primary care, behavioral health, and health home services for adults and children. The Center will have primary care exam rooms as well as behavioral health counseling rooms and serve up to 36,000 patients by the third year.
The community facility was made possible when the Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) and the Enterprise Community Loan Fund (Enterprise) closed on a loan that enabled Brightpoint Health to open the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the South Bronx. The project is being supported through a $4 million loan from PCDC which includes Enterprise participating with $1.5 million.
Both organizations are designated community development financial institutions that have worked extensively in New York’s underserved communities. In the South Bronx almost 40 percent of residents are below the federal poverty level. To date, PCDC has helped over 1,000 primary care practices improve delivery of care and have leveraged over $750 million on projects that enhance capacity in low-income communities
“The community has seen a recent influx of primary care providers delivering critically needed care, but more help particularly behavioral health services are needed”, said Anne Dyjak, Managing Director of PCDC. “PCDC is proud to be supporting Brighpoint’s plans to improve the overall health of this community by bringing much-needed behavioral and integrated care services to the people.”
