Grant Funds to Help Children

The Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program (HTPCP www.mchb.hrsa.gov administered by HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), supports community-based child health projects to improve the health status of mothers, infants, children, and adolescents.

Recently, HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau issued funding announcement (HRSA-17-008) to award eight grants totaling $400,000 with an award ceiling of $50,000. The grant funding will help HTPCP support community-based child health services.

HTPCP projects support initiatives within communities that build on community resources but usually target low-income populations and address access to healthcare, community-based healthcare, preventive healthcare, and service coordination.

Any public or private entity, including an Indian tribe or tribal organization is eligible to apply for grant funding. So far, 272 projects have been funded by MCHB at approximately $50,000 per year with funding for ongoing projects in 47 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico, and Guam.

HTPCP grants have been awarded to medical centers, schools, local foundations, non-profit agencies, community-based clinics, community health centers, hospitals, and local and State health departments.

In the beginning, the program started in Chadron Nebraska in 1990 in rural parts of the State and was called the Rural Partnership for Children (RPFC) program. Today, 26 years later, a pediatric nurse practitioner from a private practice in Rapid City South Dakota attends the monthly clinics while a pediatrician reviews the work performed by the nurse practitioner. The program ensures a medical home for patients in the RPFC program as well as the specialty care they need.
