AHRQ www.ahrq.gov is looking for proposals on safe health information technology practices related to the design, implementation, usability, and safe use of health IT by all users. These projects would be of value to generate new evidence on safe health IT practices.
There is a need for improved approaches to health IT system design, usability, and implementation, and how users interact with systems. It is also important to carefully monitor systems use and performance plus understand how to address causes of errors.
The information could be used by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT www.healthit.gov, FDA www.fda.gov, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) www.cms.gov and others to help with health IT certification and other forms of policy guidance.
Large, medium, and small projects will be considered. Large research projects should include personnel from health IT vendors and healthcare delivery organizations as well as patient safety organizations, and industry partners.
