USAID has awarded $23 million to organizations located in 25 countries to help their overseas partners. The funding will support construction projects and help to purchase equipment for 15 hospitals and clinics, 6 secondary schools, 16 universities, and one library.
Several of these projects include:
- U.S Catholic Relief Services was awarded $470,000 to help Hospital St. Francois de Sales in Haiti procure, install, and utilize an oxygen concentrator, an elevator, and telemedicine equipment
- U.S Himalayan Cataract Project was awarded $350,000 to help the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Ghana purchase specialized ophthalmology equipment for the KATH Eye Center
- U.S CURE International Inc. was awarded $570,000 to help the CURE Ethiopia Children’s Hospital purchase operating room equipment and IT equipment
- U.S American Medical Overseas Relief in Afghanistan was awarded $400,000 to help the Afghanistan Health Organization buy medical and technological equipment. Funding will support the maternal, neonatal, and pediatric programs as well as create a new chronic disease program for diabetes
- Baylor University was awarded $652,800 to help the Bangalore Baptist Hospital in India construct a building to establish a simulation training and education center for nursing
- American Committee for Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem was awarded $975,000 to help the Shaare Zedek Medical Center purchase and install a new surgical system, the da Vinci System
