$3 Million to Monitor Patients Remotely

More than $3 million is being invested in five public-private partnerships through an Ontario Centre of Excellence (OCE) www.oce-ontario.org program that uses technology to remotely monitor and care for Ontario patients.

This is the second round of projects approved under the “AdvancingHealth” program, a partnership between OCE, and Ontario’s Ministry of Government and Consumer Services www.ontario.ca/ministry-government-and-consumer-services. The funds will be for up to $350,000 for each project with additional cash and in-kind support coming from industry partners and some hospitals.

The five projects include:

  • Post-surgery patients using Toronto General Hospital’s www.uhn.ca as a post discharge intervention will now be able to use ManagingLife’s www.managingLife.com  “Manage My Pain” mobile cloud-based platform to self-report symptoms
  • London Health Sciences Centre www.lhsc.on.ca, Ontario Telemedicine Network http://otn.ca/en, Kidney Foundation of Canada www.kidney.ca, and eQOL http://eqol.ca  will partner to help patients use eQOL’s “eQ Connect” to manage their kidney dialysis treatments at home and be able to track all relevant data and progress
  • Southlake Regional Health Centre www.southlakeregional.org, South Simcoe Northern York Region Health Link www.southlakeregional.org, and CBI Health Group www.cbi.ca will utilize AlayaCare’s www.alayacare.com technology platform to monitor patient’s vital signs and complete a clinician-designed daily self-monitoring workflow
  • Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences www.ontarioshores.ca are going to assess the effectiveness of using mobile technology with the Mozazz Corporation’s www.mozzaz.com platform to actively engage and monitor a patient’s mental health activities
  • Ontario Telemedicine Network, and QoC Health http://qochealth.com will continue work on the “Northumberland Partners Advancing Transition in Healthcare” (PATH) project to make system-wide changes to meet the needs and help seniors living with chronic conditions. Phase 2 of the project will develop and evaluate the PATH’s e-solutions using telemedicine

“Our government is proud to support innovation and efficiency in healthcare through the increased use of technology”, reports David Orazietti, Minister of Government and Consumer Services. “AdvancingHealth brings together public and private sector partners to demonstrate ground-breaking products and services.”
