Support Tool for Sepsis Detection

Ambient Clinical Analytics www.ambienclinical.com launched their support tool for clinical care, called the “Detection and Response Tool” (DART). This is a solution that uses customer-defined sepsis detection and support tools to indicate whether sepsis may be present or developing.

The launch of DART comes just prior to the CMS www.cms.gov new October 1, 2015 reporting requirements for sepsis. Under the new guidelines, hospitals are required to report the incidence and treatment for Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock. These results can affect hospital reimbursement rates from Medicare as well as from private insurers.

The algorithms for DART were created with Mayo Clinic www.mayoclinic.org clinicians. When it appears that sepsis may be present or developing, the DART system will then programmatically send defined messages to specified caregivers and monitor the treatment progress in the critical first six hours of care per CMS guidelines.

DART is the first of future products that is able to collect data, present, manage, store, and deliver patient information to address important potential clinical problems such as sepsis. DART licensed from Mayo Clinic allows clinical care organizations to define specific biological metrics that may indicate that a patient has or may be developing sepsis. It also provides decision support rules for treatment.

On December 9, 2015, Brandixi3, http://healthcare.brandixi3.com a healthcare technology company announced that the company has entered into a strategic partnership with Ambient to market and handle site implementation for the new sepsis decision-support system. DART will be marketed to prospective end-user hospitals and health systems as well as to ensure that the tool works in conjunction with the users” existing healthcare IT.
