The Federal Health Architecture (FHA), www.healthit.gov managed by ONC has more than 20 federal agencies are working together to build common enterprise information models to foster interoperability, data quality, and transparency among the health IT environment.
Apprio Inc. www.apprioinc.com or https://Twitter.com/approinc a company providing specialized technology solutions for the health, defense and homeland security markets just received a $3.4 million contract from FHA.
The funding will be used to develop the Federal Health Information Model (FHIMS) www.fhims.org with funding available for up to five years. FHIM supports interoperability requirements for FHA’s federal partners by serving as a logical information model to identify common data and share critical information between federal agencies and private sector healthcare organizations.
Apprio will produce freely available harmonized information models to be integrated with open source Model Driven Health Tools. The FHIM will use the Health Level Seven Reference Information Model.
“Creating a cohesive federal health environment requires a great deal of planning and consensus,” said Bobbie Peterson, Executive VP for Health Solutions at Apprio. “Apprio has been supporting broad federal collaboration through FHA for the last year, and it is clear that the FHIM will play a critical role in ensuring federal investments in health IT hat will align with a national strategy for interoperability.”
