State Partnership Notice Issued

The HHS Assistant Secretary for Health’s Office of Minority Health (OMH) issued a notice on April 25th for the “FY 13 State partnership Grant Program to Improve Minority Health” (MP-STT-13-001).

The grant program’s goal is to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations by developing policies and programs to help eliminate health disparities. OMH in leading this effort serves as the focal point in HHS for leadership, policy development and coordination, service demonstrations, information exchange, and coalition and partnership building to address the health needs of minorities. One of the expectations for this grant program is to increase state and territory-wide efforts to support community programs that promote science-based health promotion and disease prevention research and/or support state/territorial-level health interventions.

Another goal is to establish or enhance multicultural partnerships between OMH, state, and territorial health departments to collaboratively address health issues impacting minority communities. Other goals are to make appropriate system changes and to more effectively evaluate data concerning health disparities and quality health outcomes.

Eligible applicants must be an entity within a state or territorial government and must have a minimum of five years experience in managing initiatives, projects, or activities that address health disparities or minority health.

The funds estimated for the grant competition are $6,000,000 with 45 cooperative agreements to be signed. The awards will range from $130,000 to $150,000 with an anticipated start date of August 8, 2013.
