CDC’s Funding Forecast

CDC www.cdc.gov part of HHS www.hhs.gov seeks to expand surveillance capabilities for infectious diseases in the U.S and internationally. The CDC Emerging Infections Program www.cdc.gov/ncezid/dpei/eip/index.html is a network of state health departments and collaborators in local health departments, academic institutions, other federal agencies, public health, clinical laboratories, infection preventionists, and healthcare providers.

CDC estimates posting the Funding Opportunity Notice “Emerging Infections Sentinel Networks (EISN) Research” (RFA-CK-16-001) www.acf.hhs.gov/hhsgrantsforecast July 2015 with estimated funding for $2,000,000 for one award.

The EISNs will contribute to surveillance and enhance information exchange for emerging infectious diseases. These infectious diseases include drug-resistant, foodborne and waterborne, and vaccine-preventable or potentially vaccine-preventable diseases.

The research objectives for the provider-based sentinel networks will include investigating various emerging infections, implementing studies to examine risk factors to determine practice guidelines, and then evaluate outcomes. Specifically, the FOA aims to support the collection of infectious disease data from academically affiliated emergency departments.

Eligible applicants can include:

  • State, county, city, special district governments
  • Public, state, and private institutions of higher education
  • Native American tribal governments
  • Nonprofits with and without 501(c) status
  • For profit organizations other than small businesses
  • Small businesses

 

The estimated award data is April 30, 2016 with the estimated start date of May 1, 2016.
