Brazil HIT Trade Mission Coming

The Department of Commerce’s Commercial Service/Brazil http://export.gov/brazil is organizing a Health IT trade mission to Sao Paulo to take place August 17-20, 2015. Brazil the largest country in Latin America and fifth largest in the world with 202 million people, is the world’s sixth most populous nation.

Just in medical equipment alone, Brazil is the largest medical equipment market in South America and should continue to expand as the country is a major medical equipment producer and importer.

Purchasing power for private and public hospitals is also forecasted to grow. About 80 percent of all products used in hospitals in Brazil must be imported because the country does not manufacture comparable products. Products needed include advanced medical equipment, disposables, diagnostic devices, and implants, and components.

In addition the market for home healthcare products has been increasing in recent years, Brazilian health insurance companies are responsible for paying 99 percent of the costs related to home care treatment. As a result, it is predicted that the market for home healthcare products will grow dramatically within the coming years

The trade event was organized to introduce U.S. firms to Brazil’s rapidly expanding market for health IT products, services and solutions. Included in the expanding market is clinical software, EHRs, smart mobile devices, cloud and communications solutions, and other connected M2M technology.

The trade mission designed for U.S companies will concentrate on small and medium-sized companies interested in long term business opportunities as well as trade associations and organizations representing these companies.

Trade mission delegates will participate in the event to include a technology conference plus two days of technical visits to hospitals, plus policy meetings with public health officials. In addition, there will be networking opportunities to meet face-to-face with potential strategic partners, system integrators, value added resellers, hospital decision makers and planners, and public health government officials at the state and city level.
