HHS National Coordinator for HIT, Karen B. DeSalvo, M.D., announced $1 million in grant funds to support community projects for the “Community Interoperability HIE Cooperative Agreement Program” referred to as the “Community Interoperability and HIE Program” (II-II-15-002).
The funding will help to support and enable the flow of health information at the community level. Funds will be provided for up to ten community organizations, state or local government agencies, and other community groups.
Under the new grant program, awardees will demonstrate the use of health IT to the wide range of health providers, including providers that are not eligible under the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive programs.
These programs include long-term and post-acute care providers, behavioral health providers, plus other individuals and their caregivers. These additional providers can also be safety net providers, and healthcare professionals from public health, social services, emergency medical services, plus other key members of the care continuum.
Applicants must be a U.S based non-profit institution or organization, from state or local government, agencies, or a group in a designated community. Funding for each awardee will be $100,000 with total funding of $1,000,000. A webinar to discuss the Funding Announcement will be held May 6, 2015 with applications due June 15, 2015.
