New Products Unveiled at 2015 CES

A number of new products directly related to healthcare were showcased at 2015 CES www.cesweb.org in January. Quell™ helps people deal with chronic pain by using NeuroMetrix www.neurometrix.com, a non-invasive neurostimulation technology to provide non-medication relief from chronic pain. This is specifically important when dealing with neuropathic pain due to diabetes, fibromyalgia, and sciatica.

Neuropathic pain can be caused by diseases or injuries that can often be described as “pins and needles,” or a burning or stabbing sensation. Neuropathic pain may result from disorders of the peripheral nervous system or the central nervous system. Up to ten percent of the U.S population may be affected with over half of the population having severe pain.

Quell’s SENSUS Pain Management System, a wearable device is able to provide relief in as little as 15 minutes and can be worn during the day and at night while sleeping. Quell’s prescription strength technology works with the user’s own body to stimulate their nerves and block pain signals.

A face-to-face communicator device presented at 2015 CES called UbiDuo is helping the hearing impaired. The UbiDuo from sComm www.scomm.com enables a deaf and a hearing person to sit across from each other face-to-face and have a 100 percent word-for-word barrier free conversation without an interpreter anywhere near at any time. As a deaf person signs, the gestures are automatically translated to speech on the other end.
