BlackBerry www.BlackBerry.com and NantHealth www.nanthealth.com, a cloud-based information technology provider have launched the first secure clinical genome browser that gives doctors access to patients’ genetic data on the BlackBerry® Passport smartphone. This is one of the developments in a series of offerings being developed by both companies.
The technology called the “NantOmics Cancer Genome Browser” platform used on the BlackBerry Passport, provides interactive reporting on genomics data for physicians and other treatment providers in clinical settings. This enables oncologists to look at individual genetic data to review relevant treatment options.
“The browser enables clinicians for the first time to investigate a tumor genome from three billion bases down to the single-base level in real-time due to the power of the NantOmics supercomputing infrastructure”, reports Patrick Soon-Shiong, M.D Founder and CEO of NantHealth.
“Also, by integrating with NantHealth’s treatment recommendation engine called Eviti, it is possible to personalize the treatment and provide the treatment needed for individual patients based on their genomic signature.”
The browser is due to be preloaded on some BlackBerry Passport devices and available to the professional community in early 2015.
