ORTHOMONiTOR Introduced by Kinematix

Kinematix www.kinematix.pt recently introduced their new technology ORTHOMONiTOR, a wearable sensing device that can be embedded in orthotics and prosthetics to measure wear time compliance and provide evidence of clinical efficacy.

Combining sensor technologies, wireless communication, and user-friendly apps, the aim of the sensing device is to increase patient engagement and shorten treatment cycles while supporting reimbursement.

The wearable technology continuously analyzes and reports activity not only on how the patient uses the technology but also provides information on the patient’s strides, cadence, periods of use, and informs not only if a corrective orthotic is being used, but for how long.

ORTHOMONiTOR’s evidence-based approach offers new options and insights for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, stroke rehabilitation, and other posture and mobility disorders.

The device provides the documentation and device utilization justification needed to address payer demand for increased evidence of clinical efficacy and the patients’ return to function. This is accomplished by streamlining reimbursement and compliance with payer-related audits providing greater accuracy, efficiency, and transparency.

“ORTHOMONiTOR goes beyond the clinician visit care and provides continuous user friendly guidance and feedback plus helps to increase self-management by encouraging individuals to actively participate in their own care,” according to Dr. Miguel Oliveira, Kinematix Chief Scientific Officer.

Joseph Ternullo, JD, MPH, President of Kinematix US commented, “The wearable technology paves the way for a new generation of smart orthotics and prosthetics and joins the family of Kinematix products that we believe will contribute to improved treatment of mobility-related conditions”.

In general, Kinematix technologies are targeted for the medical and sports industries such as diabetes, osteoarthritis, stroke, musculoskeletal disorders, and orthopedic injuries. The company is headquartered in Portugal with subsidiaries in the U.S and the UK as well as an office in the Netherlands.
