News: Two State Health Exchanges

The Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE) www.khie.ky.gov recently unveiled a new tool to help patients access their personal medical records and information via the internet. The patient portal called “myhealthnow” www.myhealthnow/Pages/default.aspx is a central online resource for patients to access and store medical records and personal health information. KHIE contracted with NoMoreClipboard www.nomoreclipboard.com to develop the project.

The project is currently in the pilot phase with numerous healthcare facilities across the state and will be available to the public for use later this year. “Myhealthnow” will provide benefits for consumers that includes online security and easy access to information and up-to-date records for medications, allergies, lab results, and other critical health data.

In Georgia, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta www.choa.org, provides access to more than 1,800 pediatric physicians and practitioners representing more than 60 pediatric specialties. The hospital system includes three hospitals, 561 licensed beds, 24 neighborhood locations, 43 statewide telemedicine locations, and more than 40 pediatric cardiologists at 20 statewide locations.

In September, Children’s joined the Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN) www.gahin.org containing over 16 million patient records accessible to providers. GAHIN is connected to the national eHealth Exchange and also a member of DirectTrust. GaHIN’s Georgia ConnectedCare and GeorgiaDirect products are helping members achieve Meaningful Use Stages 1 and 2.

Staff members at Children’s Healthcare find that the HIE application tool helps them provide a more comprehensive patient experience for everyone. Providers at Children’s now have access to medical histories, previous diagnoses, lab tests, medications, and allergies. In addition, access is available to Medicaid health, dental and pharmacy information managed by the Georgia Department of Public Health http://dph.georgia.gov.
