AHN & Johns Hopkins Form Collaborative

The Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and Johns Hopkins Medicine have signed an agreement establishing a five year collaboration between Alleghany and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at John Hopkins to do research, provide medical education, and perform clinical services.

AHN is a western Pennsylvania based integrated healthcare system serving patients from across a five state region that includes Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and New York. AHN’s Cancer Institute offers a complete spectrum of oncology care, including access to state- of-the-art technologies and new therapies being explored in clinical cancer trials.

Also, AHN is home to more than 80 medical, surgical, and radiation oncology physician practices, and has one of the state’s largest bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy programs, plus the nation’s largest radiation oncology network.

The collaboration will include clinical consultations including second opinions to AHN oncologists for rare cancer cases and novel therapies that may include clinical trials. Research will also include basic, translational, clinical, and population studies.

The two institutions will also participate in joint projects designed to improve the quality and safety of cancer care including developing and implementing standards of care and quality benchmarks for AHN disease sites as needed. In addition, the Kimmel Cancer Centers experts will provide continuing medical educational opportunities for AHN physicians and allied health professionals.
