NIH’s National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) released several Funding Opportunity Notices (FOA) on June 27, to help reduce oral health disparities in children. The FOAs include (RFA-DE-15-007) soliciting applications for the Data Coordination Center plus the companion FOA (RFA-DE-15-006).
Both FOAs seek ideas on how to implement the program “Multidisciplinary and Collaborative Research Consortium to Reduce Oral health Disparities in Children: A Multilevel Approach” (MCRC for OHDC). Funding for both FOAs includes 8 awards for $5,000,000 for RFA-DE-15-006 and one award of $2,200,000 for RFA-DE-15-007.
Both FOAs call for multidisciplinary studies plus additional examples to promote:
- The use of technology for telehealth, telemedicine, teledentistry, and m-Health
- Innovation in healthcare delivery systems
- Integration of oral health into primary healthcare, patient-centered care, and other public and private systems
- Optimization of financial and public polices
- Organizational and community changes
- Tailoring individual behavioral and biological factors to population subgroups.
The staff for the Data Coordination Center must possess strong scientific qualifications related to bioinformatics and biostatistics. The staff must have oral health, behavioral and community-based intervention expertise, experience in supervising complex multisite clinical studies, and experience in the statistical analysis of oral health data.
Research teams may include individuals with expertise in dentistry, dental hygiene, medicine, nutrition, social and behavioral sciences, microbiology, genetics, epidemiology, health policy, health economics, and biostatistics.
Eligible applicants can include higher education institutions, non-profits, small businesses and other for-profits, state and local governments, plus other entities.
