NY’s Southern Tier Seeks Proposals

The Regional Economic Development Council of New York’s Southern Tier wants to receive proposals. Funding for $2,125,000 is going to be available through the Southern Tier’s “Telemedicine and Mobile Health Care Technology Fund” to support expanding rural healthcare using appropriate technologies.

The funding will mean that the Southern Region’s eight counties will have the financial resources to develop technology, purchase telehealth systems and equipment, software, and mobile devices, support audio and video recording, mobile healthcare vans, and other necessary technology to help in the rural areas of the region.

The funding will help to detect, diagnose, and treat chronic diseases. The Southern Tier is experiencing marked increases in obesity and chronic disease especially with an increase in diabetes since the region has a population that is rapidly aging.

Academic institutions and major healthcare providers in the Southern Tier’s eight counties are eligible to apply for funding. Complete applications with supporting documentation are being accepted on a rolling basis with the first round of approvals is expected to take place in April.
