NIH Seeks mHealth Tools

On April 18th, NIH’s National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) issued Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) (PA-14-180) seeking to stimulate research for mHealth tools.

NINR is especially encouraging research on mHealth tools to help individuals with chronic diseases. Research topics include developing tools to improve patient-provider communications, improve adherence to treatment, provide effective self-management, and effectively using mHealth technologies in underserved populations.

NIBIB is supporting research and development of new biomedical imaging and bioengineering tools and technologies. The goal is to improve the ability to monitor health in many situations, develop point-of-care diagnosis and treatment, help people globally understand complicated health information on mobile devices, help with shared decision-making with medical professionals, develop networked citizen-driven approaches to improve healthcare, develop technology incorporating telemetry and remote access, and develop improved software and hardware tools

Eligible organizations encouraged to apply include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profits including small businesses, governments, plus others. The number of awards is contingent upon NIH appropriations and the number of meritorious applications. The earliest date for submission is May 5, 2014.
