Qualcomm Announces New Collaborators

Qualcomm Life announced new collaborative efforts at the 2013 mHealth Summit held December 8-11 at National Harbor in the Washington D.C area. Qualcomm Life’s six new collaborators include the American Heart Association, WebMD, BioScrip, MedStar Health, iMPak Health and DELTA. The collaborators are taking part with Qualcomm Life to help consumers and clinicians use wireless solutions to better coordinate and manage care beyond hospital walls.

“We have a number of collaborators now leveraging our 2net and HealthyCircles Platforms in really exciting ways,” said Rick Valencia, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm Life. “We are working with our ecosystem members to develop innovative solutions to expand patient access to improved care and tools to help them better manage their own health.”

For example, the American Heart Association (AHA) is working with Qualcomm Life on its new Connected Heart Health initiative. This initiative combines leading wireless technologies and evidence-based care plans to improve care coordination and outcomes for post-acute cardiovascular and stroke care.

“Qualcomm Life’s technology platforms provide the potential for AHA to help Accountable Care Organizations to rapidly build a clinically integrated network to deliver better care to more patients, at a reduced cost,” said Nancy Brown, CEO for AHA.

Another effort has iMPak Health in collaboration with Qualcomm Life using the 2net platform to offer Kraken, one of the first Bluetooth low-energy enabled mobile medication management systems designed to assist in organizing and tracking complex multi-pill daily regimens.

Kraken enables aging patients to better manage their chronic conditions and become more adherent to medication regimens. This is accomplished by seamlessly tracking, uploading their data, and securely sharing that information with their care team through a scalable plug-and-play solution.

“Qualcomm Life’s technology solves the critical problem of connectivity and interoperability in wireless health by allowing us to get data from medical devices to the cloud securely and in a way that is both easy for the patient and low risk for the healthcare provider,” said Sandra Elliott, Executive Director of iMPak Health.

Other new collaborative efforts involve WebMD and Qualcomm Life making biometric data available through a mobile app, BioScrip and Qualcomm streamlining processes among clinical teams to extend quality and affordable care, collaborating with the MedStar Institute for Innovation on their remote patient monitoring and CareTablet virtual visit solutions.

Also, DELTA, a European company is working with Qualcomm to integrate the 2net Hub with DELTA’s ePatch technology to record, store, and wirelessly transmit a patient’s ECG, heart rate, and activity data.
