Call for Proposals Issued

The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for the Western Pacific has issued a Call for Proposals within the Region to find innovative research and development projects for medicines, diagnostics, and other health technologies. The goal is to find ways to treat diseases and conditions that disproportionately affect developing countries in the Western Pacific Region. The deadline for submission is November 1, 2013.

Projects are needed to develop diagnostic tools to use for neglected and infectious diseases so that antibiotics and other anti-infective agents can be effective. Other idea are welcome but the projects must also demonstrate innovative and sustainable financing and coordinated approaches.

This call for proposals is open to member states, but also open to networks, consortia, public-private partnerships, as well as product development partnerships, academic research centers, the private sector, nongovernmental public health organizations, and researchers.

The call for R&D proposals is part of a global initiative that involves six regions of WHO. A limited number of demonstration projects will be selected during a global selection meeting planned for December 3-5, 2013. The short list of proposals will be presented during the World Health Assembly in 2014.
