Public Health Foundation Releases RFI

The “Training Finder Real-time Affiliated Integrated Network” or referred to as the “TRAIN Learning Management Network” has been developing a competent public health workforce since 2003. TRAIN’s centralized searchable database is a comprehensive catalog used by public health professionals and contains over 29,000 course listings from over 4,000 training providers.

Through TRAIN, more than 700,000 registered learners have access to courses from nationally recognized course providers offered in the form of web-based learning, on-site learning, and via satellite broadcasts for little to no cost.

TRAIN is now ten years old and currently is comprised of 28 affiliates consisting of agencies and organizations that have purchased a customized TRAIN portal. However, as TRAIN has grown into a nationwide system, limitations are evident, and TRAIN no longer meets all of the current needs of the learner, administrator, or the course provider community.

The Public Health Foundation (PHF) is seeking information on how to build and/or rebuild TRAIN. PHF has released a Request for Information (RFI) that in the future, PHF will use the information to develop a Request for Proposal (RFP) to improve TRAIN.

The objective is to host and maintain an electronic learning network targeted specifically to the public health workforce both nationally and internationally. The information gathered from different companies will be used to evaluate which suppliers will be contacted.

The last date for questions is September 9, 2013 with the last date for submissions will be on September 16, 2013.

For more information on how to respond to the RFI, go to www.phf.org or email Lois Banks, TRAIN Director at lbanks@phf.org or Ilya Plotkin, TRAIN Assistant Director at iplotkin@phf.org.
