Medical Device Cybersecurity

TRIMEDX a leader in medical device cybersecurity is collaborating with Indiana University Health to develop the Medical Device Security Lab in order to test medical device security.

Testing medical devices is vital in today’s world since more and more medical devices are projected to be connected as the years progress.

It is important to test new devices before being used in hospitals, test security setups in order to see what services need to be turned on, what ports need to be on the network, and provide active scanning of equipment specific to security testing.

FDA plays a role in medical device cybersecurity. The agency works closely with several federal government agencies including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and works with medical device manufacturers, healthcare delivery organizations, security researchers, and end users.

According to FDA, medical device manufacturers must comply with federal regulations and address cybersecurity risks. Medical device manufacturers can always update a medical device for cybersecurity and FDA does not typically need to review the changes made to medical devices solely to strengthen cybersecurity. The FDA encourages device manufacturers to monitor, identify, and address cybersecurity vulnerabilities in medical devices once they are on the market.
