Digital Health Improves Outcomes

Ochsner Health’s https://www.ochsner.org new findings show that their new pilot program highlights how access to digital medicine with remote patient management can improve outcomes for Medicaid patients battling chronic diseases like hypertension and Type2 diabetes.

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport https://www.ochsnerlsuhs.org launched the pilot June 2020 which now has 4,000 patients The statistically and clinically significant results of the pilot program show that enrollment in Ochsner Digital Medicine brought nearly half of all patients with out of control hypertension under control in only 90 days.

As the pilot progressed, control rates continued to improve as patients remained in the program during their first 18 months. Also, 59% of people with poorly controlled diabetes achieved control over their condition as part of the digital program which is a rate twice as high as usual care.

Following the completion of the first year of the pilot, an independent actuarial firm confirmed that the health outcomes of Medicaid patients improved by scientifically significant standards. Most patients achieved control of their hypertension and diabetes within 90 days after they began the program.

Given the variability in coverage for remote patient management, Ochsner Health is seeking to obtain reimbursement from payers and employers to further expand and formalize Ochsner’s Digital Medicine’s offering beyond their pilot in Louisiana and in the future, offer the pilot across the U.S.
