The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) within NIST, recently released the final project description “Mitigating Cybersecurity Risk in Telehealth Smart Home Integration”.
In the near future, the NCCoE Healthcare team will be publishing a Federal Register Notice on the final project description. The publication of this project description continues the process to further identify project requirements and scope, along with hardware and software components for use in a laboratory environment.
Telehealth has advanced alongside the “Internet of Things” (loT)”. Healthcare solutions may allow patients to use consumer grade loT devices to review their health information and interact with systems operated by a healthcare delivery organization.
Individuals may use loT devices to obtain lab results, schedule visitations with their care team, set reminders for appointments, or request prescription refills. However, loT compels technology adopters to rethink how they may need to secure their home environment and the networks interconnected to their homes.
In the coming months after the NCCoE Healthcare team publishes the Federal Register Notice, if anyone wants to participate in this project with NCCoE as a collaborator, the next step is to complete a Letter of Interest to present your capabilities.
Completed letters of interest are considered on a first come first served basis within each category of components or characteristics listed in the Federal Register.
