Penn Projects Receive Grants

Penn Medicine Innovation Projects from the Center for Health Care Innovations https://www.pennmedicine.org were chosen to receive Clinical Care Innovation Grants from Independence Blue Cross. Each project will receive up to $200,000 towards expanding their work.

The three Penn Medicine projects that received grants included:

  • Healing at Home—A system that uses an AI guided chatbot to provide 24/7 assistance to new mothers with questions about infant care of their own needs during the 4th trimester after delivery. The project will expand access to evidence-based guidance, including for mental health support
  • Pregnancy Early Access Center (PEACE) –A model for providing care for early pregnancy, including for miscarriages. A special focus is on equitable follow-up care for those who experience miscarriages especially to offer an alternative for those who seek care at EDs
  • Increasing access to buprenorphine and other substance use treatment services for minorities—A team was formed to decrease barriers to rapid access to buprenorphine for communities in Philadelphia made up of a majority or people of color. This project will build on earlier pilots that successfully connected more people to appropriate care which included telemedicine-based outreach and navigation services to guide people through various aspects of substance use treatment

“The funded projects this year also address areas in which some of our most vulnerable patients may see the greatest benefits” said, Elissa Klinger, Director for Health Equity for Penn Medicine’s Center for Digital Health.
