GAO Seeks HITAC Nominations

The 21st Century Cures Act established the Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (HITAC) on policies, standards, implementation specifications, and certification criteria relating to implementation of a HIT infrastructure.

The Act gave the Comptroller General of the U.S responsibility for appointing a portion of HITAC’s members. The Act requires that members reflect providers, ancillary healthcare workers, consumers, purchasers, health plans, HIT developers, researchers, patients, relevant Federal agencies along with individuals with technical expertise on healthcare quality, system functions, privacy, security, electronic exchange, and the use of standards.

GAO is now accepting nominations for HITAC appointments that will be effective January 1, 2023. Members will serve 3 year terms with terms subject to renewal, for a total not to exceed 6 years of service on the committee. GAO expects to appoint at least 4 new HIT members.

Letters of nomination and resumes should be submitted no later than July 22, 2022 to ensure adequate opportunity for review and consideration of nominees prior to appointment. All letters pertaining to the nomination plus resumes should be submitted to HITCommittee@gao.gov
