COPIC Medical Awards Grants

The  COPIC Medical Foundation https://www.callcopic.com/about-copic/copic-medical-foundation is a nonprofit organization affiliated with COPIC, a medical liability insurance provider, supports organizations and initiatives to improve healthcare outcomes, patient safety, and quality of care.

COPIC’s 2022 funding cycle focused on initiatives designed to reduce fragmentation across care settings. One of their top concerns is patient safety in terms of how a fragmented healthcare system can lead to readmissions, misdiagnoses, medication errors, delayed treatment, supplicative testing and procedures, and reduction in quality of care.

The 2202 COPIC grantees includes 5 organizations of varied size and scope that impact healthcare in communities in the U.S. This year the COPIC Medical Foundation awarded $680,000 in grants.

Grant funding supports:

  • West Mountain Regional Health Alliance (Colorado) for the Community Resource Network West Mountain. The network is a social information exchange platform in western Colorado that will facilitate a care coordination effort to support individuals experiencing homelessness. Coordination will be provided by hospitals, health and behavioral health providers, community organizations, and government agencies.

  • The Providence Portland Medical Foundation (Oregon) and the Oregon Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (POLST) Registry are going to partner to build a bi-directional interface to integrate Providence’s EPIC’s EHR with the registry.

  • The Minnesota Medical Association Foundation’s (Minnesota) Project ECHO will focus on the challenge of transitioning youth with medical complexity to adult care

  • Children’s Hospital (Colorado) will roll-out and implement the ImPACT Navigation Hub, which provides comprehensive care coordination for complex pediatric patients as they transition to adult care

  • Bryan Health Connect (Nebraska) is going to expand the Bamboo Health clinical event notification system to additional locations across Nebraska

The COPIC Medical Foundation formed in 1991, has provided more than $10 million to improve patient care and medical outcomes through grant funding and other initiatives.  The COPIC Medical Foundation grant cycle is closed but information on the 2023 RFP will be released early November 2022.
