The F22 Defense Appropriations Bill’s FY22 funds have not yet been appropriated for the Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP), the LCRP has provided a pre-announcement to allow time to submit ideas for the FY22 funding.
The LCRP is directed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs https://health.mil/about-MHS/OASDHA. The Defense Health Agency, and the R&D Directorate, manages the Defense Health Program Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation appropriation.
The FY22 LCRP funding opportunity will be posted on the grants.gov website. Pre-application and application deadlines will be available when the announcement is released.
Applications submitted to the FY22 LCRP must address one of more of the following areas:
- Identify innovative strategies for the prevention of lung cancer and for the screening and early detection of lung cancer
- Understand the molecular mechanisms of initiation and progression to lung cancer
- Understand contributors to lung cancer development other than tobacco
- Identify innovative strategies to treat lung cancer and identify strategies to use to prevent the recurrence of or metastases from lung cancer
- Develop or optimize biomarkers to assist with therapeutic decision-making
- Understand mechanisms of resistance to treatment (primary and secondary)
- Identify innovative strategies for comprehensive lung cancer care
- Understand the factors and/or develop implementation strategies to address health disparities in lung cancer
The LCRP supports research that is relevant to the healthcare needs of the military Service Members, Veterans, and their families. Examples of how a project may be relevant to military health:
- The use of biospecimens, data, databases, or programs in proposed research
- Produce collaborative efforts with DOD and VA investigators
- Provide knowledge, information, products, or technologies gained from the proposed research that could be implemented in a dual use capacity to address not only the military but also benefit the civilian population
- Provide information on how a project can address lung cancer that has a direct relevance to military Service Members, Veterans, or other military health system beneficiaries
